Founder, Investor and Moonlighting Artist

I like to think of myself as a jack-of-all-trades who is pretty good at a few of them. Below, you'll find some of my work and some of my thoughts. You can write me here.

You can also find me on LinkedIn, Twitter, Crunchbase, Seeking Alpha and Instagram.

P.S. I'm not Johnny DeFeo the painter nor John Defeo the musician, but this lone, misspelled IMDB credit is actually me. I most recently worked at Purch.

Odds and Ends

Well, hello there. This block of text includes a few facts that help to disambiguate me from the other John DeFeos of the world. My full name is John William DeFeo. I grew up in Bloomfield, NJ and attended college at New York University (graduating from the Tisch School of the Arts with a B.F.A. in Film and Television Production). I'm a brother of the Zeta Psi Fraternity of North America.

I've worked in various fields like graphic design, photography and business intelligence while at companies like Viva Media, Hachette Filipacchi, The Street, Purch (formerly TechMediaNetwork). I was also co-founder of Debonair Magazine during my time at Hertzman Media Group.

During the financial crisis, I created and named the liability-adjusted cash flow yield (LACFY) formula for valuing common stocks (as well the corollary “dividend acid test”).

These days, I live in Brooklyn and I'm taking a sabbatical. I think that's most of the important stuff.
